There is so much information out there on how to have sex, on what to do and what not to do but there is not as much information on why people have sex. Most people don't think about the why's and only focus on how to turn on their significant other. The big question however seems to be Why do women have sex?

After interviewing over 1000 women all over the world the two psychologists who literally wrote the book on the subject, Why Women Have Sex: Understanding Sexual Motivations from Adventure to Revenge (and Everything in Between), came up with 237 different reasons women have sex. A lot of the current information is from a man's perspective and focuses on how to turn us women on but the book is based on a survey where women answered directly what their own personal reasons were.

Guys sometimes think they have a monopoly on logical reasoning and that we're hard to understand and comprehend. Therefore I think it is quite interesting what a huge variety there is in the reasons that the women in the survey gave for having sex. The reasons cover everything from feeling romantic to wanting to be evil. Most of the reasons given however are based more on rational thoughts than sexual fantasies.

The women in the survey admitted that they often use sex as a way to escape boredom and one in ten thought had a financial incentive for having sex. They would then have sex if their boyfriend or husband had spent money on them or given them gifts.

It's really striking to me that a huge majority of the women said they often had sex to get peace and quiet from their nagging mates, get out of an argument and insure that the husband wouldn't be tempted to have an affair. I guess there's a truth to it although don't tell my husband I said that.

I have a headache

Contrary to popular believe. Having a headache isn't an excuse to not have sex; it's a reason for doing it. By having sex your body releases endorphins that help fight migraines and can even relieve period pains.

Ok then

Many of the women in the survey admitted that they had sex just to make their significant others stop nagging them. It seems they weren't doing it for the foreplay but for the free time afterwards.

I'm bored

Now here's a great reason. Why not have sex if there's nothing better to do and my favorite show's aren't on TV.

I am feeling sympathetic

Sometimes we have sex because we're feeling sympathetic towards our guy. A feeling that he has had such a rough time and knowing we can make all the bad feelings go away is a powerful feeling.

I am sexy

Being in control of the where and when gives us the upper hand and having sex is a great way to feel more appreciated and to improve your self confidence. Power and self confidence, now that is a good reason to do a lot of things.
